Science week kicked off on Thursday 12th March with a trip to the Big Bang Fair at the NEC, Birmingham. This year the science and DT department invited students who were achieving highly or had shown great progress in these subjects, as well as opening the trip up to any student that was keen to see what future STEM careers were available to them. Students participated in many hands-on tasks including making an alarm clock, mixing chemicals to make lip balm and making furniture out of paper (the trick was to roll it up!!). This yearly event is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths for young people in the UK and our pupils had a fantastic day, getting hands on experience with all sorts of practical work from the real world.

Our High School and Primary School were inspected recently by Ofsted. We are delighted to report that both schools were judged to be Outstanding in every category.

This is a remarkable achievement especially given that the College has been open for less than two years. It is a reflection of the unswerving dedication and commitment of the whole College community. This endorsement can only serve to strengthen our resolve to maintain the highest standards in partnership with parents to create a world-class Catholic College. It is the result of the hard work of many and it rewards the faith that parents had in trusting the education of their children to St Richard Reynolds.

Yr 8 Rugby team meet England Rugby player & World Cup Winner Danielle Waterman.

It has been quite a week for our year 8 girls rugby team. They have taken part in the London Youth Games (winning 5/6 games and finishing 5th overall out of 33 London Boroughs), met 3 England internationals and taken part in a training session with world cup winner and cup final try scorer Danielle Waterman.

After their success in the London Youth Games the school was invited along to Harlequins RFC home ground, The Stoop, to take part in a pop-up training session to highlight the topic of Women in Sport. The session was arranged by her sponsor Caxton FX – a currency exchange company who behind an initiative to encourage and inspire girls to get into sport at an early age. Danielle met the girls and talked to them about her experience playing for England, how she got into rugby and why she is encouraging young women to take up the sport. She offered them tips on how to what it takes to become a top athlete and showed them her World Cup winners Medal. The girls also took part in some rugby drills run by Danielle, received a half time team talk from her and got to hold her World Cup Winners Medal.

Over 100 parents, staff and governors enjoyed an exciting night at the races in the College Hall on Friday evening. The event was brillaintly organised by Head of Design Technology, Mr Skelton. Enthusiastic punters placed £1 bets on eight races over the sticks and bid for horses in the auction race. The customary raffle was preceeded by an auction for a Harlequins rubgy shirt signed by the team. Huge thanks are due to all those who helped to organise the evening, to man the bar, to take the bets, to prepare and serve the burger supper and to the companies who sponsored the races and paid for advertising space in race card. Winners and losers alike had a splendid evening. The money raised will help the school move a step closer to be able to lease a school mini bus for next year.

Four St Richard Reynolds pupils visited the Houses of Parliament for an event celebrating the 200 Year Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. The pupils were treated to a walk through Parliament building and were given a lecture on the Battle of Waterloo by Dan Snow. The trip highlighted the significance and consequences of the Battle of Waterloo and we left the event with a deeper understanding of the topics significance.
