Religious education is integral to the personal and spiritual development of the young people in our care and a compulsory element of Sixth Form education in our Catholic setting. In Core RE, we cover a range of topics underpinned by Catholic Social Teaching such as business ethics, human trafficking, sanctity of life and prejudice. Students study, discuss and are assessed on each unit as they develop verbal and written skills that will support them in academia and their working lives. The skills and knowledge they acquire empower them to make bold decisions, to challenge injustice and to make a positive contribution to society. We also invite students to suggest further areas of study that may be of interest to them.
- Year 12: Sanctity of Human Life, Human Rights and Trafficking, Business Ethics
- Year 13: Prejudice, Discrimination and Islamophobia, Science and Religion, Mark’s Gospel.
Lessons are designed in such a way to be accepting of all views and opinions, using this as a forum for rich reflection and discussion. We use scripture to ensure students know what the Church teaches and can understand why it takes the position it does.
