Our Personal Development Curriculum aims to give every student an equal opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive now and in the future. This includes helping them to deal with critical issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional wellbeing and change. We endeavour to give students a solid foundation for whatever challenging opportunities lie ahead, so they can face a world full of uncertainty with hope. Personal Development Curriculum education helps students prepare for the various opportunities, challenges, life decisions and responsibilities they will face and supports our students to become the person God created them to be.
Here at SRRCC, the Personal Development Curriculum is delivered through a variety of ways. The curriculum is taught in weekly tutor time sessions, where age appropriate and age relevant topics are taught by the person who knows them best – their form tutor. Personal Development Curriculum topics are also weaved through our assembly provision, during our Collective Worship and Progress Leader assemblies. We also hold “Drop Down Days” where lessons are dedicated to Personal Development Curriculum topics. Additionally, we have remodelled our Key Skills Curriculum, of which our Key Stage 3 students take part in one lesson a fortnight, to have a more significant focus on student wellbeing, relationships and sex education and citizenship. Guest speakers and workshops are also utilised to enhance our provision where possible.
The Personal Development Curriculum is also supplemented by the fantastic work our Racial Justice Equality and Diversity team does with many sensitive, but vitally important, issues explored, raised and highlighted.
As part of our Personal Development Curriculum provision, we also deliver the RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum. We use a curriculum programme called Life to the Full which is provided by Ten Ten Resources. Ten Ten’s Life to the Full resources teach RSE within the context of a Christian vision of human sexuality, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Catholic Church. Ten Ten is an award-winning Catholic educational organisation that is well-respected and very experienced in this field of work. Life to the Full has been approved by our diocese. Furthermore, Ten Ten has entered into a partnership with the Catholic Education Service and the Department for Education to provide training for teachers in Catholic schools on the subject of the new statutory curriculum. Therefore, we are confident that this programme is a very good fit for our school. RSE is delivered in the fortnightly Key Skills Curriculum for Key Stage 3 and in our drop down days for KS4.
