Cultural capital is the accumulation of knowledge, skills and behaviours that a pupil can draw upon and which demonstrates their cultural awareness, knowledge and competence; it is one of the key ingredients a pupil will draw upon to be successful in society, their career and the world of work. Cultural capital and enrichment helps children achieve goals, become successful and give children the desire to aspire and achieve social mobility whatever their starting point.
At St Richard Reynolds our curriculum is designed to instil high aspirations in all of our pupils and to encourage them to become resilient, life-long learners who embrace challenges and continue to grow and develop their cultural capital. We ensure that every pupil has the chance to access a wealth of experiences through workshops, residentials, speakers and visits to the surrounding community and beyond. Our visits and trips are linked to topics as well as life skills and experiences. All children in Years 4, 5 and 6 take part in residential trips. We invite experts into our school to work with our pupils, including authors, artists, musicians and representatives from local services. Experts inspire our children to learn through sharing their passion for their subject area, which can raise our pupil’s aspirations for their future career. Pupils are given the opportunity to take part in different extra-curricular clubs and activities.
