At St Richard Reynolds, it is our aim to ensure pupils have high-quality teaching and learning experiences that will develop their abilities to speak, read and write with fluency. It is fundamental that our pupils acquire the required skills, understanding and knowledge to become lifelong learners, with a positive growth mind-set. Our pupils receive engaging and challenging learning experiences that provide them with the confidence to achieve their full potential. We strive to instil a love for reading and a passion for writing so that pupils can communicate their thoughts, ideas and emotions effectively.
The English curriculum at St Richard Reynolds is supported by cross-curricular themes structured in half termly blocks. Each theme provides a platform for developing high quality speaking and listening skills together with the opportunity to analyse and synthesise texts. At St Richard Reynolds we want our pupils to be challenged with an English curriculum that is clear, coherent and well-sequenced.
We aim to:
- Expose pupils to an English curriculum sequenced to develop the acquisition of knowledge and skills.
- Grow and inspire fluent readers who have a love of reading.
- Nurture pupil’s creativity and imagination so they develop a passion for writing.
- Develop oral skills and language needed for pupils to confidently express themselves preparing them for their future journey through education and beyond.
